24 Season 08, the last one.

Sadly for me, 24 the series about the "adventures" of Agent Jack Bauer (played by Kiefer Sutherland) and how he stops terrorists plots against USA, is coming to an end for good. Kiefer S. made a statement a few days ago saying that the role of J.Bauer has been the role of a lifetime for him but now it is time to move on other projects and that 24 The Film is on the run, concluding eight years of a wonderful and amazing show. The truth is that 24 has been the only series that I follow religiously on TV every Monday (I am not into TV Series that much, I prefer films) and if for any reason I  missed one episode, I'd ended watching it the day after using www.hulu.com
or www.casttv.com. This show is addiction literally once you start watching the first episode of every season you simply cannot stop until the last one. I don't think any show around could equal the thrill of 24. People, including me, thought 9th Season could be possible but the rumors were confirmed last week in the news, no more Jack Bauer, no more CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) truly sad for me.

Hello everybody.

In the last couple of days I ran into two friends of mine (each one at different time and place) and I noted that they were asking everybody around them for contact info like phone numbers, email addresses, PIN numbers, etc to put this info into their newly purchased Blackberry devices, because their old devices got lost or stolen. I told my friends there is a simple and easy way to avoid this kind of situations, backing up your phone just in case you upgrade to a new device or in the worst case scenario, if the phone got lost or stolen; obviously my friends didn't know about it, so I wonder why not create a simple tutorial on how to back up and restore your info from phone to phone.

1) First of all you have to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager, either you have it in the installation CD included with your handheld or you can download it from the website www.blackberry.com. The first time I installed the app, I used the latter method because the installation CD provided is only for PC platforms and I use Mac, so this is how it looks once you are ready to download, click the "Download Now" button to download and install.

2) Once installed, run the application and connect your current handheld ( in this case I used a Blackberry Curve 8320) using the USB cable provided with your phone. The application then recognizes the phone immediately, showing your phone model, PIN number ( it is a unique number assigned to each Blackberry Phone) and even shows a picture of your model.

3) Now look for the Back Up icon on the upper right corner of your application. Just click it...

4) After you see the window where you confirm or change the destination folder where you want your back up files to be stored, the application will start backing up all your phone files, phone numbers, email addresses, pictures, videos, music, voice notes, internet bookmarks and history, even your ring tones settings.

5) Once the backing up process dialog box is gone, your phone is fully backed up; at this stage you can eject your phone from the BB desktop manager (it is recommended you do these steps once in a while since you are constantly putting information in your device)

6) At this point you can have peace of mind, but in the case you upgrade to a new phone or as I mentioned before, the worst case scenarios, you won't regret you did those previous steps. Here is how:

Connect your brand new device ( in this case a new Blackberry Bold 9700) just like you did on step 2. Again, the desktop manager will tell you the handheld is connected...

7) Now comes the Real McCoy, click the restore icon also in the upper right corner.

8) A dialog box opens requesting you to identify which file would you like to restore ( in case you backed up more than one device in your computer) then click "restore" or press "enter"

9) Then you will see a dialog box displaying that your phone is being restored with the info from your previous phone.

10) Voila, you have your new phone with all the setting and files from your past phone restored in it. Now you can click the eject button in the bottom right corner of the desktop manager.

Hope this simple tutorial helps you keep all your phone files ready when needed, we all know how bad is to lose a phone but losing what's in it is worse. As a recommendation you can set your phone to be password protected at all times to avoid ID theft just in case.

Apple's iPad, the next best thing??? I don't think so...

Since late 2009 and early 2010 the rumors of a tablet device that would be launched from Apple Computer Inc. in late January were in the tech headlines, making gizmo lovers very eager about the possible launch, even people putting would be names like iSlate or iTablet, creating a buzz in Apple stocks, etc, etc. I was also very eager to get to know this gadget, knowing that everything Apple launches is quite successful and "cool" ( I am an Apple lover in fact). It was just a matter of waiting time to watch this product for the first time in the Apple's Yerba Buena Media Event, where the keynote speaker was going to be Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

Then on January 27, 2010 at around 1:00pm VOILA!!!! Jobs launches the device, the name??? iPad. At first sight looks like an amazing and "must have" product, but, wait, NO CAMERA, NO USB ports, WHAT!!!! In plain words it is an iPod touch on steroids, sorry if this sounds like bashing Apple but this time they did a perfect example on how they can make a device you don't need, to make you crave for it. However this product seems to be a smash hit for its size and easy to use feature. The price???? Well we know Apple charges a little more for their products, so the iPad 16GB starts at $499 (also there are 64GB with 3G service ready from a little bit more), well it is affordable.

Sorry if these words sounds like bashing Apple, but come on!!!! No Camera, No USB ports, when I saw the specs I could not believe it. Why wait one year to see the iPad with these features built-in, I know there is a marketing strategy but I am just upset about it sorry that's the way I feel. In the meantime let's enjoy what we have right now from Apple.

Wow it has been seven months since my baby girl Avril was born. She has blessed me and all my family with her little and beautiful face, her eyes and her innocence. Remembering the days previous to her birth day, I was totally different as I am right now. At that time, the fact that Platy (my wife) was pregnant was OK to me but not a big deal and the thrill and excitement of the occasion were fair. Platy used to tell me to put my ear on her belly to listen to the baby and I was like: "Not now, later".  I don't know it just weren't any thrill at that time. BUT and this is a big BUT, when the big day came to Platy to deliver, I was in the room holding her hand while the doctors were performing a C-Section for delivery, when I heard the doctor said "HERE SHE IS" and heard Avril crying and saw her for the first time as is (not in the ultrasounds, looking at her through some screen) I just could not help it, I started to jump in the room with such happiness and joy, I don't know how to describe the feeling, it is the best thing that a father could experiment. Since that day on, I just want to be with Avril 24 / 7 she is the most beautiful girl in the world that I've ever seen in my entire life (Platy should not read this LOL). Right now as I write this blog she is not with me and the emptiness I feel is huge. Fortunately, tonight, I will be able to see her, hug her, kiss her etc etc etc I can hardly wait....
